Part 1 · Coming from Gratitude
She Me and My Mirror
Read the Lyrics
There was this boy he was tough and he was green He held himself tall and read books to get free The world could be at war but the boy didn't care Here was this kid with the sun in his hair He, me and my mirror, we go out walking When we get to talking freely we remake the world We raise up our glasses and drink to good health in our lives At the same time we scroll til our eyeballs are mashed up and we've run out the time. There was this girl she was wild in her ways She went through imaginary doors every day She could bend airwaves and breeze like a ghost When she whispers her voice, it's the one I hear most Now she, me and my mirror, when we go out walking And we get to talking freely we remake the world She, me and my mirror, we go out walking When we get to talking freely we remake the world We raise up our glasses and drink to good health in our lives At the same time we roll cigarettes and we order more tumblers of wine We imagine a world where there's nothing between her and I No real distinction just love in our lives A world where the warfare of others just doesn't apply In this place by a river with a mountain surround And a culture of living that's close to the ground Just she me and my mirror happily bound Just she me in my mirror safe and sound She me and my mirror, (repeat) … happily bound We raise up our glasses and drink to good health in our lives At the same time we scroll til our eyeballs are mashed up and we've run out the time. It's just a question – I'm wondering why? At the same time we roll cigarettes and we order more tumblers of wine.
Sit With This
Theme: vision, simplicity, the gap between the life we dream and the life we live
- What do you think the mirror is? What's in your own mirror?
- What do you dream of? Do you have a vision for how to live in collapsing times?
- Do you need to shave off any fantasy elements to make it a possibility?
- What keeps you from it?
- Is anybody out there doing it?
- Does it need to be a big dream, or is there something small you could bring into your daily life?
🪞 Mirroring in Pairs · ideally pairs, but can be more ▾
The song holds up a mirror that warns us about our shadows and the gap between our dreams of the world and 'the way things are'. Grounding, presence and connection can reliably bring us back to what is around us, what we are. This is a playful exercise that requires a partner (or you can get playful in an actual mirror).
How it works
Stand or sit facing a partner, as close as is comfortable. Without speaking or declaring a leader, begin to move very slowly. Copy one another's movements and let it be shared — sometimes one of you leads, sometimes the other, sometimes it's impossible to tell, but nobody is in charge here. Strike the balance, flow with one another. Let the movements find you.
After 3 minutes, let the movement settle to stillness and hold it together for as many moments as you feel before speaking.
🚶 Mirror Walking ▾
How it works
If you can, get out into nature — your back garden, the street, somewhere with life and aliveness. One of you will lead the walk — ideally you're a pair, but it can be done with three or more too. All the leader has to do is decide where to go and go slowly.
Everybody shares in noticing things. What details of the landscape and lifescape are you drawn to? What catches your eye and holds your attention? Look for life. Processes. Movement that may appear still.
Walk for a few minutes, then gather and share what you noticed. Now walk back the same way. Pay attention to what the other people noticed.
